Cricket season begins with a Hythe win!

Hythe Men’s Saturday XI started their pre-season warm-up games with a close and nervy 4 wicket victory against Kennington at The Grove on Saturday 21st April.  Kennington batted first in cold and very bowler friendly conditions after winning the toss. They started steadily, but Tim Pichowski soon got in his bowling stride with amazing figures of 5-1. The visitors making 62-9 by the close.
Despite the small target, the bowlers remained on top, with Hythe slipping to 19-4 and then 44-6. But a counter-attacking, unbeaten 36 from captain Matt Ford safely navigated the home side to victory with 16 overs to spare. Jevar Tyson was the pick of Kennington’s bowlers with 4-16.
Hythe Men welcome neighbours Saltwood to The Grove this Saturday and the Sunday side travel to Deal Victoria.
Meanwhile Hythe Juniors braved the cold to make a joyful return to Sunday Training on 21st, and Hythe Women (wearing several layers and possibly raincoats…) will be back at outdoor training on Tuesday 23rd.  Hythe U15 girls are looking forward to their first home game of the season at 1pm on Sunday 28th April.  All we need is some warmth and sunshine!
