PSA Satellite Tour

Club members and visitors were treated to some superb squash games during the weekend of 27th & 28th November as HCSC hosted its first PSA Satellite Tour event.

The event attracted full-time professionals alongside up-and-coming players, which included the England under 17 champion. With £1000 prize money up for grabs, plenty of hotly contested matches took place over the course of the weekend. The bar was open, food was provided by Loaf of Sandgate –  the club was really buzzing.

The ladies’ event was won by Asia Harris (current PSA world ranking 196). She defeated opponent Polly Clark (ranked 183) by 3 games to 0 (11-6, 11-6, 13-11) in a tense match which involved one or two contentious issues as well as some great squash.

The men’s final was a real thrill – fast-paced and full of closely contested rallies, with both players showing superb skill, accuracy and endurance. The winner, by 3 games to 1 (9-11, 11-1, 11-4, 11-3), was 22 year old Curtis Malik, currently ranked 106 in the world. He beat Jack Mitterer, ranked at 273.

Huge thanks to the club members who played an instrumental part in making this event happen… Baz Hodson, who got the ball rolling and worked so hard to keep everything running smoothly during the weekend;  Tom Locke (AW Construction) for sponsoring the event; Glenn Mousley who marked the finals and all of the other members who marked games in the earlier rounds; Tobie (and her team) for their work behind the bar.

What a great weekend! Hopefully the club will host more events of this calibre in the near future.
