2017 Racketball Tournament
The annual racketball tournament held on 17th June was a great success, with some hard fought and extremely entertaining finals.
Sean O’Donovan once again proved to be in a different class taking the Open Championship for the 15th time in succession, winning 3-0, despite his opponent John Good putting in a massive effort and nearly taking the 3rd game. John Good’s stamina, guile and determination suggested that he could be even closer in competing for the title next year.
The Handicap Championship final was a feisty affair with club chairman, Steve Davies, easing out Michael Galvin 3-0, but Michael recovered quickly to become the Plate champion for the second year running, showing his class and unorthodox shots, beating Gary Saville 3-0.
Mel Booth becomes the Ladies Champion with a stylish performance, winning 3-1 against Emma Walton.
The most entertaining game of the night was the doubles final with David Hounsell and Dave Akehurst overcoming Emma Walton and Matt Day 3-1 and making the honours board for the first ever time.
