Racketball Finals 2023
The club’s racketball finals took place on Friday 9th June. Spectators were treated to some fiercely contested matches which provided great entertainment.
In the first of his three finals during the evening, Nic Barnes was victorious in the handicap, beating opponent John Good 3-2.
Gary Hollamby – giving his more familiar squash racket a rest for a while – battled against Rick Roddy in the plate final, eventually winning 3-2 in an exciting match full of long rallies.
In the ladies final, Mel Booth fought valiantly against Sue Giles drawing level in games at 1-1 but Giles, playing consistency well, won the next two games 15-12, 16-14 to take the match 3-1.
Back on court again, Nic Barnes, with partner Martin Hart, took on Sean O’Donovan and Alison Patridge in the doubles event. This was another crowd pleaser – with some fast paced rallies and great shots – which was decided in the fifth game. O’Donovan and Patridge were the winners.
To round off the evening, the Open was contested by Nic Barnes and Sean O’Donovan, with the latter winning 3-0.
