A place in the KWSCL Finals awaits the Hopefuls after an exciting day of cricket last Saturday. Hythe, sporting their long awaited new kit, welcomed teams from Deal Victoria and Barns Close and Folkestone to The Grove.

The first match was between Hythe and Folkestone with Folkestone winning the toss and putting Hythe in to bat first. They finished their innings on 67/1. Top scorer was Sian with 19 – hitting three 4’s and there were also 4’s for Jayne, Stacey and Friday. Despite a few fielding fumbles, Hythe managed to restrict Folkestone’s scoring and they finished on 47/1.

Next came the match between Deal and Hythe. Hythe chose to bat first and posted an amazing score of 80/0. Yet again Sian was the top scorer – 27 this time (five 4’s and one 6), Stacey was next with 15 (two 4’s) and Rosie with 14 (one 4 and one 6). Deal put up a good fight but in the end the Hythe score was simply too high to reach. They ended their innings on 40/0 – a second win for Hythe.

The final match was between Folkestone and Deal – with Folkestone needing a win in order to tie with Hythe. Deal were ahead going into the last over but lost a wicket – meaning they need 1 to win off the final ball. A tense moment for everyone but the Deal batter held her nerve, struck the ball and made the vital run to give Deal their first ever win!

After a traditional cricket tea the players rounded off the day with a friendly match, with the teams made up of a mixture of players from all 3 teams. Great fun and a real celebration of women’s cricket.
