On the July 12th Hythe faced Canterbury in their third Bash match of the season. Hythe won the toss and chose to bat first. At the end of their innings their total stood at a respectable 152/5. Stand out batting performances were made by Sian – retiring on 30 having hit an amazing 6 and 5 fours, Stacey – retiring on 31 (4 fours), Wendy, caught on 22 (also 4 fours) and Kaylea caught on 15.

Hythe managed to take 3 wickets during the Canterbury innings with Wendy taking two catches behind the stumps (bowled by Verity and Stacey) and Jayne taking the 3rd and final wicket. Canterbury reached the required total during the 19th over – although the teams agreed to play out the overs and Stacey took a great catch right on the boundary!

The next match was at home against Whitstable who chose to open the batting. Rosie took the first wicket closely followed by one for Lucy. Three Whitstable players retired not out and their score reached 111 before Hythe took their third and final wicket – a terrific catch for Annabel during Rosie’s third over. Whitstable finished their innings on 127/3.

Sadly Hythe struggled to find their usual form with the bat despite Sian retiring on 33 (just the 6 fours this week!) Pam, posting the next highest score of 11 and Annabel (8) demonstrating nerves of steel and doing her utmost to steady the sinking ship. Hythe finished their innings on 85/8.

Two losses but two very enjoyable games. Thanks to Canterbury and Whitstable – always a pleasure to play cricket with you. A massive thank you to our umpires and scorers (especially Col Gainsford for stepping in to umpire at Canterbury at short notice) and as always we are grateful for all the support from our friends and families.

Next match away against Chestfield (Radfall Recreation Ground) on Sunday 16th August.

Next home match Saturday 22nd August 1pm where we face Deal and Folkestone in the Kent Women’s Softball Festival League.
