Squash Celebrities Entertain at Hythe Cricket & Squash Club
There was a treat in store for members and guests at Hythe Cricket & Squash Club on Saturday 11th September as former World No.1 and three times World Squash Champion, Nick Matthew, and former World No.9 and British Champion, Daryl Selby, visited the club – the only Kent venue in their ‘Back to Squash Exhibition Tour’.
During the day they coached a group of juniors – who were amazed by their skills – and a number of adult members. They also played some friendly games against a selection of club members.
The climax to the visit was an exhibition match between the two professionals which was closely contested and also provided great humour and entertainment for the spectators. The match ebbed and flowed, extended by numerous ‘trick’ shots but after nearly an hour and a half, Matthew triumphed by 3 games to 2.
The evening continued informally with supper and music during which Selby and Matthew circulated and chatted to members.
The club is grateful to organiser, Rhys Taylor-Ryall, for all of his work in bringing off this visit of sporting superstars. We hope that we may be able to invite Nick and Daryl back to visit the club in the not too distant future.
